Touch not working after Digitizer replacement?

Hello every one!

I'm a newly started technician and I absolutely hate ipads. I always end up with problems from them!

Anyways, I replaced the broken digitizer with a new one and every thing seemed great. When I went to test that everything was working (I haven't removed the strips over the tape and actually mounted the digitizer) it started up fine.

However, when I get to the lock(unlock) bar I couldn't continue. The touch isn't working.

Home button works fine, if I put the Ipad to sleep I can wake it up with the home button.

/EDIT: I just tried with another digitizer, same problem. Home button works, touch does not.

Is the spacing between the golden 'prongs'(what is the correct technical term for them?) supposed to be there?

Thanks for any and all tips!

reflow Touch Screen Fpc connettor.

by

i think it could be the board connector .

I have the same problem but some of the screen works i.e I can type in some of the numbers for the password but not others and the slide off does not work. In initial testing before sticking down all worked perfectly but after final reassembly this problem occurred. I have stripped it down again and checked the connectors which look ok but it still has the same problem. (iPad 6 1954)

From your picture, you are missing one of the pins in your digitizer connector (good prong). That is a common problem, and the fpc connector will need to be replaced. This is a repair that I do regularly, so feel free to contact me if you need help.

This is damage from seating/unseating the connector, not the original drop. It is also common to flick off small components at the battery connector area, so check for that as well

by

In the future, how can I remove the connector in a better way as to avoid this problem?

Thanks for your response, Jessa.

I damaged one once long ago, and I think just the awareness of how fragile they are is your best tool. I never use bulky plastic tools and pry most stuff with a fingernail, or if the battery is disconnected (another iPad mini must) then the point of a fine tweezer or needle just on the edge.

Hello Jessa. I replaced the display on my iPhone 5 yesterday and I have the same above issue. I suspect that I may slightly damaged the digitizer connector when either removing the old display or reseating the new display. I see no missig or broken prongs, but obviously it does not allow a response to touch when re-connected. Curious, do you still do this repair to the connector? I'd love to have it fixed.

Hello is this solder from the top or the bottom.... Does the mother board have to be taken out

I had a same problem. Befor you connect new digitizer back, firstly disconnect old digitizer then screen itself and then disconnect battery. After that connect battery back next connect screen and then connect your new digitizer. Now turn on ipad, after apple logo all should work fine. I hope it helps.

Have you made sure the connector is seated properly? Or have you tried another screen to be certain it is the digitizer and not the board connector?

Update

With looking at the picture, yes you would need to desolder the connector and solder a new one on. Sorry for the bad news.

IF you would like to compare check out this

iPad Mini Wi-Fi Digitizer Connector

You will see no gap in the gold prongs.

Hey Josh, thanks for replying.

I just tried another Digitizer and had the asme problem. The cable is seated correctly from what I can tell. However I did notice (not sure what it's name is..) on the logic board, where the flex cable is inserted into. there is a small gap between two of the golden 'prongs' that the cable latches onto. I don't know if it's supposed to be that way or if it could have been damaged when it fell.

I was stupid enough not to test the Ipad before replacing the digitizer to find out what did/did not work.

by

If none of the cables are damaged and seated correctly, I would look at the logic board connector being bad. As you have tried another digitizer and received the same feedback.

This other digitizer you tried is a known working one correct?

by

Well, I can't say it's known working as I don't have another Ipad Mini to test it with..

Could you be so kind as to take a look in the OP at the picture and tell me if that looks normal to you?

I also tried putting the old digitizer back on, no response from the touch, home button works.

by

No problem, thanks a lot for your time!

I cleaned up the traces and still nothing on the touch. Not sure of its the board or my new screen.

Hello , I'm having problems with my iPad . I've just had the screen replaced and it worked fine to start with but my boy dropped it and the screen became loose and ever since it's been temperamental, i.e. Unresponsive to touch after a couple of minutes . Can you help me to diagnose a problem please ?

by

It's an iPad mini by the way

by

discount the battery, press home with volume down and power button same time together. Connect the battery again and press the three button together, keep pressing till it boots and reboots then remove your fingers and check it

I don’t recommend anyone to use any kind of tool to disconnect any connector from any kind of phones. Use your baby finger nail and try to have a little bit taller nail for your finger , it’s very useful for technicians ^^ . Trust me I have been doing it for 10 years + without any problem because it’s your nail and your hand so you can
