Identification and Background
Scion was introduced as a Toyota brand in 2003. The Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) is a Japanese automobile manufacturer. The Scion marque emphasized inexpensive sport compact vehicles marketed towards younger buyers. Unlike many automotive brands, Scion vehicles were each sold in just one trim level for a non-negotiable price. Dealer-installed options were available to buyers. Scion offered 150 accessories for their models, though other aftermarket companies offered additional accessories.
Scion vehicles were first sold in the United States by selected California Toyota dealers in June 2003. By February 2004, Scion sales had expanded nationwide. The Scion brand expanded into Canada in 2010. Toyota discontinued the Scion brand in August 2016 for the 2017 model year. Some Scion vehicles were discontinued while others were rebranded as Toyota models.
Scion vehicles can be identified by the Scion emblem, which includes the name “SCION” printed in capital letters inside of an oval. The emblem also includes a curved line through the middle of the oval. Rebranded Scion vehicles include the Toyota emblem, which features two interlocking ovals that form a ‘T’ shape inside of a larger oval.
The name ‘Scion’ means the descendant of a family and refers to the brand’s cars being a descendant of the Toyota brand.
