Monitor no signal after start up

Hello.

So just today, I have this problem where my monitors does not display anything after start up. I would turn on the CPU and everything runs fine (fans, power supply, etc) but my monitors stay undetected as if my computer was never turned on.

I did some research and, so far, I've tried:

-removing all or some of my RAM and switching them through diferrent slots.

-removing and reinserting my PCI and my graphics card

-resetting CMOS through the jumper switch and battery

-unplugging everything from the Power Supply and replugging.

-pressing the CPU on/off button for an extended amount of time.

So far nothing has worked and I'm completely stumped. Everything was working fine until my computer randomly crashed darker today and then froze in start up to now not displaying anything. Any help would be highly appreciated and thanks beforehand.

My specs are-

-8 GB ddr2 ram

-quad core Intel

-nvidia gt640

-corsair tx650 power supply

Have you tried the monitor on a different computer?

by

i unplugeed and plugged the vga cable from both ends and then plugged them back in and it worked

by

I've the same issues with my pc too.

Pc specs are as follows :

Ryzen 2700x, msi b450 gaming plus, gtx 1060 6gb, 8gb x 2 ddr4 ram, 650w psu.

All i've done is switched on gaming boost and A-XMP in my bios settings and got a blank screen showing no signal. I've tried everything mentioned in that question but haven't succeeded. Help me please.

It could be your PSU. My monitor would intermittently should the desktop but thengo black with the words "NO SIGNAL" and the monitor followed by going to sleep. Sometimes rebooting cleared it up but when my furnace went dead a few days ago the house temperature dropped from 70 to 37 degrees. At that temp the monitor never came on. I switched out the monitor with another and had the same results. Thinking the temperature was a factor I ran a hair dryer on high for a minute and suddenly the picture on the monitor came on. The picture stayed on for about 5-10 minutes then went black as the power supply cooled. I warmed it again and the picture resumed. At that point I felt very confident it was the PSU so I ordered and installed a new one and the monitor and computer are both working like new.

Are you getting post beeps on startup ? If not you may be dealing with a power issue . Just because your fans are running and your motherboard light comes on doesn't mean you have enough power in the power supply to run the machine .Power supplies can die slowly and still appear ok .If you have access to another power supply try changing it out . You may also want to try a different monitor or test your old monitor on another computer. depending on your motherboard you could try resetting the mem button common on Asus boards. Also you mentioned you've disconnected the power and that you've held down the power button for extended periods . Did you do this together? if not try unplugging from power and holding the power button down for roughly 60sec then plugging in and rebooting. Finally as dumb as this is going to sound but it happens to the best of us... is your monitor turned on and plugged in? Just sayin Hope something here helps and good luck

Pc show display after removing battery or change cmos setting but when i shutdown and start again then again no signal error everytime when i remove battery or change cmos pc show display but only for one time

by

@M Zeeshan

Have you checked that the CMOS battery is OK?

Usually they are non rechargeable 3V DC coin cell batteries. If the battery is <2.6V DC replace it.

by

Ok for me when I power on my pc for the first time, no signal comes to the monitor but when I do it a second time it comes on. What is going on?

This is the first time I've ever decided to post a piece of advice to any website/message board because I think it would really help a lot of people. I had the exactly same problem after installing a new motherboard. I tried everything I could think of and all the tips I found online; to list just a few: updating my BIOS, reinstalling Windows 10, changing from DP cable to HDMI, reinstalling all my drivers, reinstalling just graphics drivers, plugging and unplugging my Nvidia graphics card several times, cleaning/vacuuming every single component (my comp is as clean as a whistle - looks brand new, trying all kinds of combinations in BIOS settings, etc - nothing worked.

And here is how I SOLVED IT! After reading some unrelated advice about the "turn on fast start-up" function in Windows 10 and reading about how it can cause certain booting problems, I thought I might as well give it a try, nothing left to lose. So, I went to Control Panel/Power Options and under "change setting that are currently unavailable" turned off the fast start-up. Voila, problem solved! I'm guessing there is was kind of incompatibility between my motherboard (Intel Desktop Board DQ77MK) and this particular Windows setting. After spending a week dealing with this issue and going out of my ever-loving mind, you can imagine my relief. I'll make sure to post this advice on as many message boards I can to help other miserable souls like myself.

Hi,

Considering the thread is about no monitor signal after startup, just wondering how you changed the settings in Windows if the display wasn't working?

by

what version of windows are you using? tx

dude ur an absolute legend! This *!&$!&$^ thing has been plaguing me for over a year! Thank you so much for this!

@jayeff there are 2 different issues here, but the symptoms are the same. One is purely a hardware issue(RAM, PSU cables and other) the ohter one is a software issue. Iv'e eaten my nails over this. I swapped everything, mobo, psu, monitor, gpu, cpu bios update etc.. all of it and was still experiencing this when the system needed to auto reboot, for an update for example. NOTHING WORKED. The only thing that remained unchanged was Win10. This change in power options has worked for me. Finally..

If your motherboard has an onboard graphics card you might want to try unplugging your PCI-E graphics card and plugging a monitor into the onboard graphics card. This will verify whether or not it is your PCI-E graphics card that is faulty or not.

I get the some problem and tried all this metods, but don't work.

I talk with my techers and they tell me to remove the PCI graphic card, clean the contacts, with an ruber and a brush (with soft bristles), and put that again, and now are working normally.

Had the same problem and it ended up being a bad memory stick. Try removing the memory and see if you get the error beeps. If so then try one stick at a time and see if that solves the problem.

Tried everything except replacing parts , then solved the problem by vacuuming the air vents and then took off the lid and vacuumed the fan area and memory sticks . No issues for weeks now.

These solutions are mostly from experience so they are not fully reliable…

I suggest reading this whole article before starting anything.

Complete Guide/Solution:

  1. Check if the monitor power cable is plugged in and or video cable (eg. HDMI). Quite funny although has happened.
  2. Check video cable is broken by testing with another cable or looking for visible defects.
  3. Check if you have a broken monitor by checking the monitor status light and trying with a different monitor.
  4. If these steps didn’t work than sadly it’s time to start looking inside our PC… Make sure to unplug the PC anytime your touching anything inside the PC. Try avoiding touching any tiny parts on the components as well.
  5. Check if the PC’s RAM and GPU are fully inserted into their slots and in the rights slots. Some motherboards require RAM sticks to be in certain slots first before others.
  6. Clean any dust out of the PC as this may cause shorts and also stop the PC from cooling properly.
  7. If none of the steps up to here has worked than their might be a broken part:
    1. Broken RAM: Check if the PC works with each individual RAM stick in the first, second, third and fourth RAM slots. The PC will split its data evenly between each stick; this means if any single one of the RAM sticks are broken than the PC will not function.
    2. Broken GPU: If your CPU has onboard graphics than it will be easy figuring out if your GPU is broken. Just plug the monitor/video cable into your motherboard and see if you get an output. If so then your GPU is the problem. Otherwise, try to test another working GPU in your PC.
    3. Insufficient PCU: If you have bought a PCU with bad reviews or a PCU that cant handle the amount of wattage your parts need than this could be a problem. Some knock-off PCU’s actually can only supply down to half as what the specified to be able to do.
    4. Broken PSU: This one will be pretty obvious. If none of the components (including fans, LEDs) is turning on then its probably a signal of a broken PCU.
    5. Broken CPU: This one sucks to check although check if the CPU cooler is properly installed by removing it and checking if the CPU coolers thermal paste has spread on the CPU well. If so then also check if the CPU is cracked by removing it, holding by the sides, and also check if any pins are damaged on the CPU.
    6. Broken Motherboard: This one is quite hard to discover although if everything seems to be not running except the PCU fan than this might be true. It is also quite common as motherboards are quite complicated to manufacture. Check to see if there is any visible defects and check all the slots to see if they're damaged.

Did you completely reset your hdd or did you just unplug it, I tried the comment where you go to control panel and search the power option and turned off fast boot up. This fixed my problem but I feel like my pc is slower and I just built it. It has,

Gtx 1060 6gb

Thermaltake 600watt psu

Ryzen 5 3600

16gb Corsair ram

1tb hdd

250gb ssd

My windows is installed on the hdd

I solved this issue by swapping my PSU with a new one. The Mobo was indeed receiving power and everything was turned on including my ARGB fans and AIO cooler. I did everything from reseating the RAMs and unplugging all the cables. So I thought that it was a CPU issue and the first thing I check was if it receives power from the CPU power cable. Turned out, the 8 pin cable was broken.

I had this issue with a Samsung SD850 32”, would be fine for a long time then start up again with the no-signal screen after turning monitor on (after previously turning it off while the system was still on). It usually happened after a windows update. The only way to get the screen back was to reboot. The other day I applied a screen saver out of nowhere, thought my kids would like watching it. Well, it turns out the screen saver continues to run - sending video output to the monitor - even when its off! Now, whenever I turn on my screen, the saver is faithfully running and I’ve had no issues since. Its almost like powering off the monitor causes the GPU to stop providing output all together and it won’t trigger back on. I have 2 different GPUs right now (calibration reasons) and could sometimes get around the issue by switching video outputs to the other card. Once the system realized a monitor was connected, I could occasionally switch back to the original GPU. Running a screen saver and powering off the monitor has been the best solution for me so far.

I have been trying to fix this for a while now, and I have replaced my power supply, and my motherboard allready but that doesn't
seem to have worked. After watching more videos on it I found someone that said "If your mouse doesnt turn on or light up than
it might be a ram issue" but I tried a different pair of ram and that didnt work either. I have basically done everything. This problem occurs before I even get the option to go into the BIOS I need help.

If mouse lights up then that means mobo is getting power from psu even without powering on but keyboard lights indicates that pc is running and the processor and rams are ok and right now im having these screen issue and tried everything swapped all parts except mobo and processor and from some yt videos i suspect its a short on the northbridge chipset of mobo and maybe going to repair shop will be best just hate those people just charges way too much

Open your PC case and locate your video card. Remove the card and then replace it firmly in its slot or, if possible, insert the video card into another slot on your motherboard. A video card that is not making a firm connection will not display images to the monitor. Close your PC case and test the monitor again.

This may help you,

Lowering refresh rate of monitor worked fine for me. I had similar problems with Samsung odyssey g7 on 240 Hz refresh rate. Monitor couldnt keep up with booting i guess so i missed boot screen and couldnt enter the bios. I don't think its power issue since i have 1000 W brand new psu of Platinium quality.
