Background and Identification
The Microsoft operating system is housed on numerous desktop computers manufactured by different brands, including HP, Dell, and Lenovo. Most of the computers that run Windows are not manufactured by Microsoft, but Microsoft has manufactured a few desktop all-in-one PCs themselves: the Surface Studio and Surface Studio 2.
The Microsoft Surface Studio was released in 2016 and was the first Windows computer to be manufactured directly from Microsoft. The Microsoft Surface Studio isn’t marketed toward the average web browser but toward creative professionals. This is reflected through the hefty price tag—the Surface Studio started at a cost of $2,999.
The Surface Studio is designed for graphic artists, designers, etc. It is essentially a very large, sleek touchscreen that sits atop a desktop base. It provides the convenience and touchscreen abilities of the Surface Pro but in a much larger setup.
In 2018, Microsoft released a second version of the Surface Studio, the Surface Studio 2. The Surface Studio 2 has a larger display as well as a more powerful interior. The Surface Studio 2 is attached to a flexible base that allows it to sit at any angle. All of this comes at a steep starting cost of $3,500.
The Surface Studio and Surface Studio 2 have thin, rectangular screens mounted to stands that are designed to sit atop a desk or table. The Microsoft logo is printed on the back of the encasing.
