Battery will not charge past 1%

My ipad air only charges to 1%. The battery is flat and when I attached the lightening cable it will make the icon of the cable disappear and show a battery in the middle of the screen that appears to be charging. The ipad gets to 1% and turns itself on but that is as high as it gets. Eventually the screen goes black again and the ipad does not recognise that the cable is still attached. If I remove the cable from the wall charger and put it into the USB on my laptop the whole process begins again until I change it back to the wall charger. I have tried different cables and chargers, some Apple and some not. I initially replaced the charge port as it seemed that was the issue because I could wriggle the cable and get the ipad to show charging. I have checked the soldering and it all appears fine. I Have tried the reset method and leaving the charger attached all night but nothing changes. I am beginning to think the problem may have been the U2 chip all along. Does anyone else think that is a fair assessment or is there something else I should be looking at?

Does the laptop charge on the laptop, or the wall charger? The current in the laptop or wall charger may be too weak for the ipad to charge. An iPad requires 2.4A to charge, while an iPhone needs 1A.

The wall charger is an Apple 2.4a and 5.2v output.

Same here on an ipad just bought in June, problem started nearly 4 weeks later, have bought numerous charges and plugs since, all from apple, feel ripped of. So clearly this is a common problem and should be apples responsibility.. more life in a golden delicious atm that this junk!

Same. No charger is charging it beyond 1%.

It sounds like you're charging your iPad using an adapter or power source that is too weak. I would suggest using the original (or a certified for iPad) adapter and seeing if that improves the results.

If that's ruled out as a potential issue my next best suggestion is to replace the charging port and/or battery.

iPad Air, iPad 5, iPad 6 Battery

iPad Air Lightning Connector

Best of luck!

I performed a hard reset - held the power and home buttons down until a black screen appeared with a white tablet and cable - and left it alone, just keeping it plugged in to the wall charger.

THAT screen stayed up about 5 minutes, then rebooted to the white screen with the black apple, the the login screen came up. It had kept the hard reset screen up long enough to bring the battery up to 6%, so I could shut it down to charge all the way.

Ridiculous issue to begin with, but that's what finally worked for me.

I don't know if this is going to work--still downloading software--but at least I got to the irestore screen! Thanks.

This is what did it for me - hard reset.

It's an apple product, it's designed and manufactured using an “engineered obsolescence” model of development. Ever notice how older iphones and iPads get really glitchy when a new model is released? I have.

My advice…trash it and get something running

thats because tech gets better and software keeps requiring more and more power, and are we gonna ignore that apple products last longer than any of the competition

Seen something posted before from an ex employee that each device is only manufactured to last about 18months or so so that you upgrade to newer version before contract is up

Had the same problem. SOLVED IT! Just buy fast charger 20W and the cable for it. Few minutes of charging made the job for me! Good luck!

Same problem I'm facing with..

My ipad is not charging beyond 1%..

After 1% the charge icon disappears and stops charging..

Similar thing happend to my iphone also 2years back.

That time they replaced with new phone.

But now my ipad is not in warranty. Seems like Apple phones are engineered to cause issues like this.

Any genuine solution to this?

I couldn’t get to the settings menu until I plugged it into my car charger because it wouldn’t stay on long enough. For some reason it stayed on longer on the car charger. So once I did get it to stay on I put it in airplane mode and turned off all power draws such as Bluetooth, WiFi.

Plug into a charger that puts out the correct voltage and it will charge if the battery or plug port are not defective. Within 10 minutes it is at 7%. Give it a try.
